Sitters find their attention wandering to how cold or hot the room is, how hard the chairs are, how stuffy the air is, and how uninspiring the décor is, instead of focusing on receiving input from spirit. One thing that I find lacking in many public séances is that the space itself is not comfortable.
If you are left with a choice of the whole house or entire facility, I find that choosing the most comfortable space for the sitters is actually more helpful than you’d realize. Perhaps it is the room with the most historic sightings or activity. If you are looking to explore paranormal activity in specific haunted locations, you will of course want to choose an appropriate room within that place. All this being said, the social structure of a home and the place that is most comfortable varies for each person, so use your best judgement here. This area of your home generally has the most positive energy and family memories. The place where everyone gathers the most to socialize and be together is the place where the spirits are most likely to gather to socialize. The best place to hold a séance for a departed loved one is in the center of your home (ex: the living room, family room, or dining room) or in the center of their home. People associate these times with increased spirit contact and magickal activity, and this belief and practice will impact the energy of your séance. The earth is considered to be in a liminal, transitory space on Samhain, Beltane, and many other spiritual days. I’m not generally a fan of the metaphor of the veil or the division of “spirit” and “earthly” worlds, but these dates are significant to many and in that way they hold special power. This is when the proverbial “veil” between the spiritual and earthly worlds is thinnest. If you are attempting to explore the spirit world generally, the nighttime hours of Samhain or Beltane would be excellent times. Astrological correspondences (aka space weather) and important spiritual dates can impact the feeling of the séance.
Just as a brief aside here: children and grandchildren, don’t underestimate the importance of your own birthday to your departed parents or loved ones. If you are looking to contact a departed loved one, you may want to hold the séance on the anniversary of their birth, death, or another important date to them. STEP 2: Choose a date.ĭepending upon your reason for holding the séance, you may want to hold it on a certain date and time. Finding these synchronistic patterns and meanings is one of the most exciting things about spirit communication, so don’t miss out. Don’t forget: Write out your hopes and expectations for the séance and record how they unfold before, during, and after the event! This small step can make a huge difference in how easily you will recognize the messages that spirit is trying to communicate to you. The séance is no exception, and is in fact a good example of this esoteric guideline. Intentions are vital whenever attempting to perform a ritual or to do something magickal, and they go a long way in helping you to achieve your desired outcomes.
Your goals, intentions, and expectations will profoundly shape the event, so you’ll want to do this step at the outset before making further plans. Why are you doing the séance? Are you attempting to contact a specific spirit? Are you looking for a general exploration into the spirits present at your house? Are you interested in experiencing spirit communication to learn about yourself? Once you’ve determined your goal and desired outcome, you can start to design the séance to achieve that purpose. Without further ado, here are seven steps to hosting a séance: STEP 1: Set your intention.
We totally understand that desire! Although we would love for you to have your séance with us hosting, providing psychic impressions, and doing trance mediumship, we realize that people need guidance on how to do it on their own too! Therefore, we’ve put together this easy guide on how to throw the best séance ever.
